Prop Firm Daily Loss vs Max Drawdown: Kya Fark Hai?

By Advait, founder of Trade with Advait · Updated 23 Oct 2026

Prop firm challenge fail hone ka ek bada reason ye hota hai ki traders daily loss limit aur max overall drawdown ko ek hi cheez samajh lete hain. Dono alag rules hain, alag tarike se kaam karte hain, aur dono ko alag trigger karna possible hai. Is guide mein hum dono ko simple numbers se samjhenge, taaki risk plan banate waqt confusion na ho.

Daily loss limit kya hota hai

Daily loss limit sirf ek trading day ke loss ko measure karta hai. Zyada tar firms mein ye account ka 3% se 5% ke aas-paas hota hai, aur roz naye din ke saath reset ho jata hai (kuch firms balance se calculate karti hain, kuch equity se — exact method rulebook mein dekho). Matlab aaj aapne 4% loss kiya, to kal ka counter firse zero se shuru hoga. Lekin agar ek din mein hi limit cross ho gayi, to account usi din breach ho sakta hai, chahe overall drawdown abhi kaafi door ho.

Max overall drawdown kya hota hai

Max overall drawdown poore challenge period ka total loss limit hai. Ye aam taur par 8% se 12% ke aas-paas hota hai, aur reset nahi hota — jab tak challenge chalta hai, ye limit same rehti hai (kuch firms isme static drawdown use karti hain, kuch trailing; dono ka matlab alag hota hai, isliye apne specific account ka rulebook zaroor padho). Matlab ye 10 chote losses ka sum bhi ho sakta hai, ya ek bada loss bhi. Dono tarah se limit hit ho sakti hai.

Worked example: $50,000 account

Maan lo account $50,000 ka hai, rules ye hain: daily loss limit 5%, max overall drawdown 10%, aur aap har trade mein account ka 1% risk lete ho.

Ab dekho kya hota hai. $500 risk par, sirf 5 losing trades ek hi din mein daily limit ($2,500) hit kar denge. Wahi, 10 losing trades total (ek din mein ya alag-alag din mein spread hue) max drawdown ($5,000) hit kar denge. Matlab daily limit zyada "sudden" risk hai — ek kharab din, aur account khatam. Max drawdown zyada "slow bleed" risk hai, jo kai dino ke chote losses se bhi aa sakta hai.

Agar per-trade risk 0.5% kar diya jaye ($250 per trade), to daily limit hit karne ke liye 10 losing trades chahiye honge — matlab buffer double ho jata hai. Yehi reason hai ki zyada tar risk-first plans chhoti position size suggest karte hain, especially challenge ke pehle kuch dino mein.

Dono limits ek saath kyun matter karte hain

Bahut log sirf max drawdown dekhte hain kyunki wo bada number lagta hai, aur daily limit ko ignore kar dete hain. Lekin practically daily limit hi pehle hit hota hai, kyunki ek bad trading session mein losses jaldi stack ho jate hain — news event, revenge trade, ya galat lot size ke baad. Isliye risk plan banate waqt dono numbers ko alag-alag likhkar rakhna chahiye, na ki sirf overall target par focus karna.

Dono ko track karne ka simple tarika

  1. Apna "stop for the day" pehle se fix karo, firm ki daily limit se kaafi neeche — jaise firm ki limit 5% hai to apna internal stop 2% par rakho.
  2. Running total maintain karo. Aaj ka loss aur challenge-start se total loss, dono alag note karo har trading session ke end mein.
  3. Per-trade risk fix karo pehle, phir dekho ki kitne consecutive losses mein daily aur overall limit hit hoti hai. Agar number bahut chota lagta hai (jaise 3-4 trades), risk kam karo.
  4. Drawdown ka type confirm karo — static ya trailing, balance-based ya equity-based — apne account ke rulebook se, kyunki is se buffer ka actual calculation badal sakta hai.

Honest limits

Ye sirf ek general framework hai jo kisi bhi challenge pass karne ki guarantee nahi deta. Har firm ke exact numbers, reset rules aur drawdown ka type alag hota hai, aur rules time ke saath badalte rehte hain. Paisa lagane se pehle apni firm ka current rulebook zaroor padho, aur agar refund ya payout ke legal/tax sawaal hain to apne CA se baat karo — hum legal ya tax advice nahi de sakte.

Frequently asked questions

Daily loss limit aur max drawdown mein kya fark hai?

Daily loss limit sirf ek din ke loss ko measure karta hai aur roz reset hota hai. Max drawdown poore challenge ke total loss ko measure karta hai aur reset nahi hota. Dono alag-alag trigger ho sakte hain, isliye dono ko saath track karna padta hai.

Agar daily loss limit hit ho jaye to kya hota hai?

Zyada tar firms mein daily loss limit hit hone par account turant breach ho jata hai, chahe overall drawdown abhi door ho. Exact action firm ke rulebook mein likha hota hai, isliye paisa lagane se pehle usse padhna zaroori hai.

Max drawdown balance par based hota hai ya equity par?

Ye firm aur account type par depend karta hai. Kuch firms balance-based static drawdown use karti hain, kuch equity-based ya trailing drawdown. Dono ka risk alag hota hai, isliye apne specific account ka rulebook check karna chahiye.
