How a Rule-Based Forex & Gold Algo Works (and What to Check Before You Trust Any Trading Algo)
By Advait, founder of Trade with Advait · Updated 25 Sep 2026
Most people who lose money in Forex and Gold (XAU/USD) do not lose because they lack information. They lose because of emotion: revenge trades, moving stop losses, oversized lots after a bad day. A rule-based trading algorithm is built to remove exactly that. But "algo" is also one of the most abused words in trading, so here is a plain explanation of how a disciplined one works, and how to judge any algo, including ours.
What "rule-based algo" actually means
An algo (an Expert Advisor, or EA, on MetaTrader 5) is just a written set of rules executed by a computer: when to enter, how much to risk, where the stop is, when to exit. It does not predict the future. It follows the same plan every single time, without fear or greed.
The 8-factor approach behind Trade with Advait
At Trade with Advait, the algo does not depend on one indicator. It looks for confluence across several independent factors before it acts:
- EMA for trend direction
- ADX for trend strength
- ATR for volatility and stop distance
- Elliott Wave for market structure and phase
- Bollinger Bands for volatility expansion and contraction
- Ichimoku for trend, momentum and support/resistance
- Market structure (swing highs and lows)
- Multi-factor confluence so no single signal decides a trade
The idea is simple: one signal can lie, several agreeing signals lie less often. It is not magic and it does not win every trade.
Backtested result: 87% win rate. In our historical backtests the system produced a win rate of about 87%. Please read that number carefully: it is backtested, historical data, not a guarantee of future results, and a high win rate does not mean guaranteed profit, because risk per trade and drawdown matter just as much. Live results can and will differ from backtests.
Risk rules matter more than entries
Anyone can show a good entry. What decides survival is risk control. A serious algo needs exposure limits, a basket stop loss, and defensive rules for bad market conditions (high-impact news, thin liquidity, sudden volatility). Ours are built into execution, not left to the trader's mood on the day.
What to check before trusting ANY trading algo
- Is the account in YOUR name and under YOUR control? You should never hand over money to someone else's account. Your capital should stay in your own trading account.
- Are terms clear and written? Profit sharing, settlement frequency and permissions should be explained upfront.
- Is any win rate shown as backtested or historical? A backtest is not a promise. Anyone guaranteeing monthly returns should be avoided.
- What is the drawdown and what are the risk limits? Ask what happens on a losing streak.
- Can you test small first? A good process lets you start with a small capital and verify.
- Is the broker allowed to you? Check that any broker or platform is permitted for you under the rules that apply to you (for Indian residents, RBI/FEMA rules apply).
Who is this for?
Traders who want to understand a disciplined, systematic approach instead of chasing signals, and who accept that trading carries real risk. We explain the system openly: how it decides, how it manages risk, and how the partnership works.

It is a rule-based algorithmic trading system for Forex and Gold (XAU/USD) on MetaTrader 5 that looks for confluence across eight technical factors and applies built-in risk rules.
Is the 87% win rate guaranteed?
No. 87% is a backtested, historical win rate. It is not a guarantee of future results, and a high win rate does not guarantee profit. Trading carries a high risk of loss.

Yes. In the Trade with Advait model the trading account remains in the client's ownership.
